Joseph Doan is said to have fathered 23 children, first with Clara Rogers and later with Myrtle Card. The family lived in a small Gladwin County community called Cherry Hill. The land at first appeared quite fertile, but was quickly depleted. Today the area is used mostly as hunting land. A paved road services the area, but most of the road mileage in the area is trails following the paths of former railroad lines, with names like Mosquito Alley and Sterling Truck Trail. Too bad the land was not as fertile as Joe and his wives.

This photo does not show all of the children, but does include some spouses and grandchildren.
